Frank Lloyd Wright's Architectural Masterpiece
A trip to the Pittsburgh area is not complete without a day trip to Western Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands and Frank Lloyd Wright's house on the waterfall, Fallingwater. Located 90 minutes southeast of Pittsburgh, it was designed in the 1930's as a summer home for Pittsburgh's department store magnate, Edgar Kaufmann and has become an icon of modern architecture. A poll of members of the American Institute of Architects voted it "the best all-time work of American architecture". Visited by thousands of admirers from around the world every year, you don't want to miss it! I highly suggest the 8:45am In-depth tour to avoid the crowds and be able to take photos inside the house. Weekend dates fill-up quickly, so try to let me know to book as far in advance as possible.
I'll pick you up at your designated location in the Pittsburgh Metro area for the 90 minute drive to Fallingwater. I highly suggest you book the 8:30 or 8:45am In-depth, 2-hour tour which avoids the crowds later in the day and is the only tour that allows you to take photos inside the house. We would leave the Pittsburgh area by 7:00am, arriving at Fallingwater in time for your tour and have time afterwards to visit the excellent musuem shop, full of Frank Lloyd Wright related items, and maybe grab something to eat in the Cafe. Another Wright designed house, Kentuck Knob, is only a 15 minute drive from Fallingwater so you could book a 12:30pm, 1-hour tour there. Another option would be to return to Pittsburgh for a quick, overview tour of the city. The 90-minute return trip, back to your designated location in the Pittsburgh Metro area, would have us arrive around 3:00pm.

Phil was an amazing tour guide. He was a great resource about what to do in Pittsburgh even before we arrived. On the day of the tour, he coordinated new tour times when we (my group, not him) were running late....and even pointed out sites that we would have missed. Would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tour guide!
