We had an enjoyable trip to El Escorial (a UNESCO site) and the Valley of the Fallen with Nani. We spent two hours at El Escorial, going through rooms (not all are public) of this huge palace, including the chambers of the King and Queen, those where the kings' caskets are, and the library. The highlight of the Valley of the Fallen is the basilica where Franco is buried. Nani expertly explained the history of both places and talked about the controversies surrounding the Valley of the Fallen.
