Cool East London - Street Art and Street Food in the Fashionable East
As seen in ToursByLocals trailer: the most diverse part of the city where history meets contemporary culture and an internationally-recognised art scene, including world class street art.
*Includes a short chocolate tasting*
East London has brilliant art and on this walk around super-hip Shoreditch we'll see the cream of global street artists.
The streets are rich in history and the alleyways are living galleries - come and see an incredible range of contemporary art and hear some tall stories about the various characters behind this constantly changing world.
There are also lots of interesting boutiques, vintage and fashion stores, quirky pubs and of course centuries of London stories to savour. Come on a weekend for markets or during the week if you prefer a quieter tour.
It's a great place to linger afterwards over a coffee while you people-watch. Suitable for 'cool kids' of all ages!
Kids will enjoy the chocolate tasting, adults can visit a brilliant pub.
We can either stick to the main East London street art hot spots around Shoreditch and Brick Lane, or we can jump on a train trip to go a little off the beaten track to the 'next Shoreditch'?
You can see Shoreditch in depth, or mix up a shorter look with Dalston and the once-unknown Hackney Wick - all street art hotspots.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: To maximise time, we can meet at London's Liverpool Street station at the top of the stairs by McDonalds where the Kindertransport statue is (south side stairs, not east).
But if you prefer, I can come to your hotel. Please do bear in mind though that we'll then spend the first 30mins of the tour on the tube. But we can do whatever works for you best.
End location: I'll leave you where you can easily get back downtown by subway.
Duration: 2 hours 30 min.
It can always be extended, but this is a good amount of time to take everything in.
Overground train between sites. Clean, comfortable and more access-friendly that the subway.
My guiding experience, knowledge and passion for all things East London. You can see me in the Tours By Locals video for London to see for yourself.
Transportation is extra if we go a little further out. Often you will have bought this already to get you to the start point.
I recommend a travel pass if we're going beyond Shoreditch or you're coming by public transport (see Transport for London's website and the Oyster cards or travelcards section).
Estimated Local Cash Needed
7 GBP - You might want to grab a coffee or even try some street food.
You'll need a 1-day travelcard (unlimited travel) or an electronic Oyster Card, which tops out automatically at the price of a travelcard, giving you unlimited travel just the same.
We'll be in Zones 1-2 (around £7 for 1-day card) mostly but if you want to come home via the Olympic Park and Stratford (eg to see the Westfield mall) then you'll be going into Zone 3.
Travel after 9.30am ('off-peak') or it costs more.
I am not a driver; we have a wonderful - and comprehensive - public transport system to enjoy here.
I am not a Blue Badge guide but have 12 years experience and four continents under my guiding belt.
