Windmills, clogs, and cheese at Zaanse Schans and Volendam
We will start our tour by visiting Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum, an area which has a collection of well-preserved historic Dutch houses and windmills.
We will also visit a cheese farm where you can learn how Gouda cheese is made in Holland. You will be invited to try different kinds of cheeses.
After that we will visit one of the windmills and I shall tell you about the history of the windmills and their use in Holland in the 17th century. Another attraction at Zaanse Schans is a wooden shoes workshop where we can learn how the local craftsman produces wooden clogs. From Zaanse Schans I'll take you to the very picturesque fishing-village of Volendam. We will visit the oldest part of the village and a local harbour with a beautiful view over the lake of Marken. There will be the opportunity to try some local delicacies: smoked eel and Dutch herring or to enjoy a traditional Dutch meal in one of the local restaurants. Optional: a visit to the former island of Marken, reachable by a local ferry.

Ravil did a great job sharing the country side of Amsterdam to my wife and I. He was on time for our meeting and wasn't concerned about the duration of our tour. He was familiar with the flow of crowds visiting the sites to be seen and scheduled our viewings accordingly. Well worth the money spent. We will do it again with Ravil..
