This 90 minutes walking tour takes you through the old center of Düsseldorf and shows how a small fishing village situated on the Rhine became the capital city of a powerful NW European Duchy. It also became a place of pilgrimage. Many a battle was fought with the next door neighbour: the Archbischop of Cologne. Remnants of the old citadel can still be seen. Mediëval and Baroque churches built by the noble families that ruled from here are visited.
In case the starting point is on Burgplatz we shall walk through the maze of little Streets visiting the monument of the birth of the city, St Lamberts Church, the river Düssel, the museum to remember the victims of Nazi Germany, the Andreas Church, Bolkerstrasse, Flinger Strasse, Schneider Wibbel, Marktplatz, Zollstrasse, old harbour and back again to Burgplatz.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: The white tower along the Rhine (see picture) on Burgplatz (large square) is a good place to start.
End location: at the restaurant you prefer
