Back in the city I was born and raised, after more than 10 years in Europe and Germany, I have renewed appreciation for both the city and country I love. Said to be a 'cultural melting pot', Durban is a unique and intriguing blend of East meets West meets Africa. But if the endless summer climate, lukewarm ocean lined with golden beaches and laid back year round carnival atmosphere of this subtropical coastal city aren't enough, Durban has the added advantage of key attractions at it's very doorstep, Big 5 Safari in Africa's oldest game reserve, the glorious Drakensburg mountain range, breathtaking natural scenery, the Zulu Kingdom, and more. . . there is just so much to explore. An exploration geologist by profession, I'd love to take you on your very own journey of exploration and discovery.
My journey into tourism is itself something of an 'adventure'. One might say, I 'stumbled' into the field when a good friend and tour operator asked me to act as 'translator', when her German guide unexpectedly fell ill. But I so enjoyed the experience, it wasn't long before I took an accredited course in tourism and hospitality, and began guiding largely German speaking coach tours of up to 40 guests across southern Africa. Almost 2 years, hundreds of happy guests and tens of thousands kilometres later, I'm keen to apply my guiding experience to a more personalised tour - one that is tailor made for you.
I understand that we're all individuals, with varied needs, time constraints, interests. . . . history, culture, culinary treats, nature, sports, action, adventure, . . . ? Whatever depth, breadth and, or pace of exploration best works for you. . . . whether you're traveling as a family, a couple, a large or small group, or on your own. . . . whether you want to explore Durban, the surrounds, above and, or beyond. . . let me help you make the most of your African adventure. I'd love to share with you an authentic slice of 'my home', and leave you with stories and memories to take back to yours
