Newgrange, Hill of Tara, Mellifont Abbey, Monasterboice & Hill of Slane.
The Boyne Valley has a rich heritage going back to the Stone Age when the prehistoric tomb at Newgrange was constructed over 5000 years ago. About 2000 years ago the Celtic people crowned their High Kings on the Hill of Tara. The Round Tower and High Crosses at Monasterboice are about 1000 years old. Mellifont Abbey founded in 1142 was the first Cistercian Abbey in Ireland. The Hill of Slane is where St. Patrick lit a Paschal fire in 433 CE in defiance of the High King Laoire who forbid any other fires while a festival fire was burning on the Hill of Tara.

Michael was a fantastic guide and we enjoyed the day very much. He was very knowledgeable about all the many sites we visited. We never felt hurried or rushed and Michael selected a very nice place for lunch that we thoroughly enjoyed. We can recommend him without reservation. We also highly recommend this tour -especially the site of New Grange. Definitely a must see.
