Meet My City
This tour will examine the downtown area from the city's founding, explosive cotton-fueled growth, and the Civil War battle of Memphis. We will also see Memphis as she survived Union occupation from 1862 - 1865, the devastation of Yellow Fever epidemics and the Phoenix-like rebirth that followed.
We will explore Memphis history though buildings, monuments, alleys and parks. You will be introduced to a variety of colorful characters who shaped Memphis history, people such as Davy Crockett, Andrew Jackson, Isaac Rawlings, William Tecumseh Sherman, Bedford Forrest and Danny Thomas to name just a few.
Our tour will begin at the Cotton Museum so to better understand why the city of Memphis became to be an economic powerhouse in the 1800's. We will then walk the downtown area while exploring the rich cultural aspects of the city.
I like to offer flexibility to adjust this tour to address any specific interests you may have. When you contact me please include any such specifics.
Obviously weather can be a factor. In the case of rain, we can adjust to a driving tour that will cover this tour and more.
