hanseatic city walk with a private guide- Dutch landscapes while on route
Deventer is one of the oldest cities in The Netherlands, about 70 miles east of Amsterdam. It's history starts in 768 AD with the missionary Lebuin (Leafwin) who originated from Daventry, England.
After being destroyed by the Normans, the city was fortificated more then once. Prosperety came to Deventer in the early 1000's and the city grew rapidly, a growth that intensified when Deventer became an important and rich Hanseatic town and refuge city for the Bishop of Utrecht.
Deventer now is a provincial town with approximately 100. 000 citizens.
The old town center has been beautifully restaurated and is now famous for its historical appearances. Apart from that characteristic, Deventer is famous for the biggest old marketplace in Holland where you can enjoy a good drink or two or find a nice place to eat. Small streets with small shops in the more off-road segments lead from the market into the intimate streets and alley's.
