Discover with me why and how Paris became the City of Lights
Haussman's Revolution transformed Paris into the city that we know today. People ignore why this city is so beautiful, or how or who made this happen?
Of all the revolutions that have happened in Paris, none transformed the city as much Napoleon III second empire, all thanks to Baron Haussmann project; who restructured entire neighborhoods, projecting the city to the XX century.
On this tour, we'll explore Paris Urban design, examine the great changes that took place during its lifetime, and explain why Paris looks the way it does. Through this tour maps and images will help us to understand clearly the complexity of Paris's urban design.
We begin our discussion at the Louvre's Cour Carre, then we walk through the Palais Royal one of the first entertainment centers of Paris, this innovation will change the world by launching a vogue of covered commercial passages through the city, the history will unfold chronologically the times of industrial revolution as we arrive in Grands Boulevards
Grand Boulevards: From here, we'll emerge into XIX c. Paris, stepping out onto its first boulevard, and the Herath of the city during the Industrial revolution exploring its inner courts and most iconic buildings to finish in the Apotheosis of them all: the Opéra Garnier, completed in 1875; this a jewel building is a jewel of architecture and we will understand why in detail.
We will finish at the Rooftop of the Galeries Printemps to see the city from above and synthesize that all we have seen.
