A Private Tour With Surprises Around Every Corner (in season tour)

We start our tour with a drive through the beautiful North Jutland countryside to the picturesque, quaint, former fishing village of Sæby. Here we visit the church to gaze upon the amazing, early 16 century, chalk, ceiling frescoes. This is followed by a short walk through the town's cobbled streets and quaint cottages.

We continue onto Bangsbo Manor, first mentioned in 1364. Lying in a beautiful forest with a river, valleys and hills, it's a surprising place with 4 separate attractions: a moated manor house, museum in the farm buildings (with a Viking ship from 1163), botanical gardens and a wild life park.

From here we drive to our final stop, Voergaard Castle, a fascinating, moated, Renaissance manor from 1520. Its chequered history belies it's importance as home to one of today's priceless art collections with works by: Goya, Rubens, Raphael, El Greco etc; a collection of Louis XIV & XVI furniture and artefacts, personal effects of Napoleon I and Marie-Antoinette, Papal gifts of priceless tapestries.

Itinerary

A scenic drive up the east coast brings us to Sæby, a village dating back to Viking times. Its picturesque, well-preserved yellow painted cottages, complete with hollyhocks, surrounding the former monastery Church of St Mary, is a joy to the eye.

Bangsbo Museum, with visits to:
- moated manor house: with rooms based on different themes, French Empire, Victorian living room, Rustic room and a special display of late 1800s hair jewellery.
- farm buildings museum: housing a maritime collection, WW2 occupation and resistance exhibition and a fine collection of carriages from 1600s to 1900s.
- botanical garden: covering an area of 17, 500 sq. m. Restored to its original late 1800s British inspired park. A unique and special section is the Boolsen Stone Garden.

Voergaard Manor, which over the years, was home to the infamous Bishop Stygge Krumpen, the sinister Ingerborg Skeel and a 20 century Dane who became a French Count and bequeathed his priceless, extensive, unique collection of art & furniture to Denmark.
