Visit an ancient town from the 2nd century BC
We start by taking the boat to Delos from the Old Port, and getting there in about 35 minutes.
First we visit the Theater District, and we marvel at the ancient houses (House on 5th street, House of Dionysus, House of Cleopatra, House of the Trident). We walk among houses, shops and workshops, we notice the almost perfect sanitary system, we admire the mosaic floors, and when we get at the top of the hill we visit the Theater and the huge water cistern.
Then, we take the Sacred Way that leads to the area of the temples. We notice the Stoa of Philip V (today under reconstruction), and soon we arrive before the ruins of Apollo's temple; the remains of his gigantic statue lay hundred yards further down.
Next, we notice the big Slave Market (Delos became very rich thanks to the slave trade!), and the adjacent Sacred Lake (where Apollo was born). Finally we admire those famed Lions at the Terrace of the Lions, and after having a look at the ancient wine market, we conclude the visit with the Museum's highlights.
