A Planned Colonial city ...........
Delhi - became India's Capital on 12th December 1911, during Delhi Durbar , When George V the then Emperor and his consort Queen Mary made this announcement , for shifting the capital from Calcutta. The foundation stone of New Delhi was laid by King
George Vth and Queen Mary at the site of Viceroy's residence at Coronation Park , Kingsway camp on 15th December 1911. Parts of Old Delhi were called as New Delhi. New Delhi built by Sir Herbert BAKER and Sir Edwin LUTYENS was officially inaugurated in 1931 , as it. s construction was delayed due to World war I. However , India became independent just after 16 years of great inauguration of New Delhi as capital and still it is the capital
with beautiful impressions of British Architecture in New and Old Delhi reminding us of that era.
