We chose to hire ToursByLocals guide Chika Kuroiwa to take charges of us for a free day in Tokyo rather than wandering the city by ourselves--it was a wonderful decision. Chika is friendly and speaks English beautifully, having spent time living in the US midwest. As importantly, she was attentive to our desire to 'fill in' what we hadn't seen on main tour, enabling us to make maximum use of Tokyo's excellent but complex subway system to visit sites across the city. She was both enjoyable and informative.
