Choose between a wine focus, a more general sightseeing day out, or both.
Stellenbosch is a charming, attractive and bustling 330 year old country town just 45 minutes from Cape Town, yet with a youthful vibe thanks to its 25 000 university students.
Franschhoek has more of a village feel, and its shopping options are more high end.
Wineries range from boutique to commercial, with some hidden gems tucked into the valleys, complemented by a staggering variety of great restaurants.
Traveling between the various wine regions and towns takes us over spectacular passes and through idyllic countryside. The mountainous landscape is punctuated by beautiful homesteads in the signature Cape Dutch architectural style.
We can decide which wineries or other places of interest to visit based on your interests such as taste in wine, as well as in other aspects such as history, architecture, gardens, art, wildlife & conservation (Cheetah Outreach, Eagle Encounters) or shopping.
Whether you're a family looking for a fun day out, or serious wine connoisseurs, there's something for everyone!
From Cape Town, it's a 45 minute drive to Stellenbosch and a one hour drive to Franschhoek. We normally manage to visit both towns and regions.
If your main goal is to maximise your opportunities for visiting wineries and tasting wine, we usually fit in four wineries, if we move along at a reasonable pace.
If you would like to have time to have a walk in either of these towns, do some shopping, or visit any other attractions, we will more likely fit in three.
It is entirely up to you how much you would like to focus on wineries. Even if you would only like to visit one or two, there are enough other things to see and do, to keep us busy for a full day. Besides wine, many feature historic homes, gardens and other attractions.
