5-hour Car & Walking Tour
Once World War II was over, Poland found itself in the communist zone, under the influence of USSR. It was the whole new political situation and a very important moment in our history, which shaped our life for the next 40 years.
If you are interested in what it was like to live in communism, I will be glad to tell you the story. I remember that very well. There are quite a lot of places in Warsaw which remind us about that important time in our modern history. I will tell you the historic tale. At the same time you will also see the impact these times left in the architecture of Warsaw.
** This tour is not available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
During this tour I will tell you about both political and daily life of living in the communist country. It all made a huge impact on one hand on our society, on the other hand on our economy, culture and architecture.
During World War II, Warsaw was destroyed in more than 80%. It was a tremendous loss in city infrastructure. At the same time it became a new opportunity to build the whole new modern city. At that time it had to be built in so called Socrealist Realism Style. The most spectacular example of this style is the Palace of Culture and Science situated in the city center.
I will point out the building which used to be the former Headquarter of the Communist Party. We will visit the museum of Father Popiełuszko, a priest who was killed by the communists. We can't miss the visit to Powązki Cemetery where the former leaders of the Communist Party are buried as well as the soldiers fighting against them after the war was already over. Polish history is difficult but fascinating at the same time.
