My tours are mostly in Colorado, but I can custom design tours in Utah with Toursbylocals, as well. I have been teaching adults geology and natural history (plants, animals, ecosystems, weather etc) since I graduated from College in 1984 with a BA in Geology. Most of my tours have this focus but I enjoy and can share other subjects , as well, such as food & wine, native cultures, and agriculture.
In 1994 I received my MS in Geology from University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. After a year at a national laboratory working as a geochemist I decided to return to Colorado and pursue a fantasy of being an organic farmer. During this period (1995-present) I developed my farm, built and operated a guest house on the farm, eventually sold the farm, started guiding, and teaching adults.
I am currently designing and guiding Road Scholar Programs (formerly Elderhostel) in Colorado and Utah for a Colorado-based Road Scholar program provider. Principally, I guide hiking, downhill and xc skiing, bicycling, and geology programs. These programs are all site specific, utilizing a town in Colorado as a home base. The programs that I have listed on Toursbylocals. com are smaller versions (both in numbers of people and length of time) of these other trips . All the programs listed with Toursbylocals. com emphasize: 1) Safety, 2) Fun, 3) Learning, and 4) Personal challenge at your request. Check them out! They cover a wide range of locations on the "Western Slope" (west of the continental divide) of Colorado and into eastern Utah.
In addition to "Rocks", I have an avid interest in Colorado state history including native cultures. I am also interested in resource and energy issues in the Rockies, food and wine (smaller scale agriculture), green construction, baking, and living simply.
My programs and guiding experience are well established. If you are looking for a short, personalized tour give me a call. All my tours are customizable to fit YOUR interests and ability level. We can start from scratch or modify an existing tour listed in Toursbylocals com. Programs difficulty level is up to you. I have copious amounts of experience tailoring programs (even listed ones) to meet a guests physical abilities.
For me, the best reward in guiding guests is the fun I have sharing the beauty of the place I call home and conveying complex natural history in layman's terms.

I am not a certified ski instructor (PSIA, for example) but during ski guiding can offer tips and help with your skiing. I use the PMTS method created and taught by Harald Harb.
