- walking tour "appealing to your sense of smell"
During this general overview you will get to know the Cathedral (from the outside) and the historic town hall district. We will walk along the former Jewish quarter and the old market square. A stroll along the river promenade of the Rhine and through the cobblestoned lanes of the medieval merchants' quarter will give you an idea of Cologne's rich history.
In the year 1709, the oldest, still existing Eau de Cologne factory was founded by J. M. Farina here in Cologne in this very same building. Here he created his "aqua mirabilis", which became famous all over the world as "Eau de Cologne".
Your tour will take you through the intimate exhibit, giving you a new understanding for fragrances. 100 years later, more than a hundered different EdC's were sold by many different companies. Another brand name -"4711"- became known as well. But original remains original.
Please, check with me before making reservations. Availability changes quickly and does not always correspond with the online calendar. Thank you.
Normally we will spend a good hour walking around the cathedral and Old Town. The visit through the Farina Museum takes approx. 45 min. But I can easily adapt to your preferences.
Please, contact me before making the reservation. I will check with the museum whether they can have us at the stipulated time or can offer us an alternative time slot.
