- a last chance to see the Roman treasures (to close soon for renovations)
PLEASE NOTE = This tour will only be available until March 29, 2019 = The Praetorium will be permanently closed as of March 29, 2019 and later will be integrated into the "MiQua" museum quarter site when finished in 2023.
During this general overview you will get to know the cathedral (from the outside) and you will discover some Roman remains and the historic town hall area. We will walk along the former Jewish quarter and the old market square. A stroll along the river promenade of the Rhine and through the cobblestoned lanes of the medieval quarter will give you an idea of Cologne's rich history.
Then follow me to the Roman Praetorium (Latin for "Governor's Palace") into "Roman times". These excavations are located 10 meters below the surface. This is an amazing site, often overlooked by visitors. You will only get a glimpse of what this majestic palace must have looked like.
Please, contact me first before making the reservation. My availability changes all the time.
We usually spend 1. 5 h's walking around the historic sites of the city center, followed by approx. 30 min inside the Praetorium. Some steps (elevator available).
