Gardens, heritage, views and coffee of Christchurch with a private guide
This City Tour is a 6. 00 hour trip which will show you why it is called the Garden City showing off the city's main attractions as well its beautiful parks. Christchurch is still in recovery mode from the February 2011 Earthquake, but the main features remain. The heritage precient with Museum, Arts Centre, Botanic Gardens and Art Gallery providing the backdrop for the Port Hills.
As this tour is more organic than most, I have built in flexibility to allow for personal interests. However one of my recommendations would be to drive up the Port Hills to see the spectacular view over the city and across to the Southern Alps. Other interesting attractions are the Cardboard Cathedral as well as a chance to see the Anglican Cathedral which is still showing the power of the quake.
This tour is personalized and flexible to accommodate your interests.
Depending on your departure point your tour will include a visit to the City's heritage present. Included in this area is the Arts Centre, Botanic Garden, Christ's College, and Canterbury Museum. Other points of interest that will be covered are The Tannery, the Spanish influenced New Regent Street, Sumner Beach and the Port Hills.
There will be time for a bit of shopping, art gallery viewing and coffee and a bite to eat.
I am happy to personalize a tour to meet your interests. For example, if you are a Rugby fan I can show you Richie McCaw's home club, if craft beer is your thing I am happy to stop by a couple of excellent brewery's. Wine, no problems, just north of the city we have excellent vineyards serving award winning wines. Aviation history is covered with the excellent Air Force Museum.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I will collect from the wharf in Akaroa. I will have a sign with the tours by Locals logo on it and to improve visibility I will also be holding a red and Black umbrella.
As Akaroa is a "tender" transfer the Wharf does get congested so my usual meeting point is on the pocket park with an old artillery gun in it right at the end of the Wharf.
End location: You will be returned to the start point of your tour
Duration: 6 hours 30 min.
This tour time may vary to fit in with your schedule.
Transportation will be in a late model Van or SUV.
There may be some walking involved depending on activities.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
30 New Zealand Dollars - The estimate is based on a quick lunch, a glass of wine or juice and perhaps a snack.

Michael N was fantastic! He built a day around the things we wanted to see and do in Christchurch (and surrounding Port Hills and Lyttleton Harbor). It was fascinating to hear about the 2011 devastating earthquake in the region, and to see the rebuilding efforts still taking place. One of the main reasons we chose to book with ToursByLocals was because so many roads are still closed, so if unfamiliar, it is tough to navigate the city with unexpected closures. Overall, a wonderful, relaxing day!
