A journey through time
On this tour we will visit the oldest continuously inhabited town in the world. The history of Chania begins some 5000 years ago. We will walk around the old town for 2 to 3 hours and you will learn all about its great past. We will look at buildings, completely different from each other, fortification walls, fountains, and churches that bear witness to its long history.
Our tour will continue to the archaelogical museum which is housed in a very impressive building of the Venetian period. It houses relics from the Neolithic period to the late Roman times, covering a chronological span of 3000 years. We will look at pottery from different time periods, mosaic floors, ancient coins, Minoan offerings, gold jewelry, classical Greek and Roman sculpture and other relics which give us important information about the ancient civilizations and their way of life.
Through the 1 hour-tour around the museum, you will be able to form a picture of the past and the development of ideas over the years.
Our tour will begin at the main covered market.
We will continue to the old town for about 2, 5 to 3 hours.
We can have as many stops as you like if you need to rest or take pictures.
Our tour will end up at the archaeological museum where I will guide you for an additional hour.
