Along the road leading from Padua to Venice - paralleling what is considered to be an extension of the Grand Canal - runs the beautiful Brenta River, the area preferred by Venetian aristocratic families to build their summer residential homes. Villa Pisani is one of Italy's most beautiful villas. The vast park still preserves an intact labyrinth where tourists often amuse themselves among its hedges. Finally, we visit Villa Foscari Malcontenta, a Palladian masterpiece that celebrates the powerful Venetian Foscari family, who proudly remain the owners of the villa to this day, a place where time seems to stand still.

This tour guide is absolutely fantastic. He is friendly and helpful. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the works of Palladio and the decorations and frescoes in the Palladian villas. He took his time to show and explain everything at a pace which suited us and took us to two additional villas which were not included in the original tour. His knowledge of the subject matter of the Giambattista Tiepolo frescoes in the Villa Valmorana at Vicenza was breathtaking.
