Escape the crowds and spend the morning admiring the beauty of nature
This tour is all about escaping and relaxing in a serene natural setting. We will travel up the coast and across the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina (passports required!) to enjoy two wonderful stops away from the crowds and a mouth-watering lunch of local delicacies.
I will give you a bit of history and introduce this wonderful part of the world as you travel to your first destination, a historical botanical garden in village of Trsteno, nowadays also popular as one of HBO's Game of Thrones' filming locations. Next stop is across the border in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Your visit is to Vjetrenica Cave, one of the largest and most fascinating speleological sites, measuring some 7km in length with numerous subterranean lakes and water streams (NOTES: around 500m accessible to public. Rocky, uneven terrain, low temperatures - bring jacket, long trousers, closed shoes).
Close by is a family owned restaurant in an old train station building where you will enjoy delicious local specialties before heading back.
After pick up at the accommodation, our itinerary first takes us to the Arboretum in Trsteno Village where you will be able to enjoy a collection of local and exotic flora and hear the story of its interesting history and present. Following the arboretum we are heading across the border to the neighboring Bosnia I Herzegovina (Herzegovina part), so bring your passports with you. Here we will visit one of the longest caves in this part od the world - Vjetrenica Cave. There are 7 kilometres of the cave discovered, we will visit the first 400-500metres that have been made safe for guests.
Visit to the cave will end just in time for lunch in a nearby restaruant where you will enjoy traditional meat dishes and some local wine in a wonderful setting of a former train station.
Pleasant scenic drive back to Dubrovnik will be the perfect end to the tour.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The cave temperature is a constant 11°c with rocky, uneven terrain, so please have warm trousers and a jacket with you as well as closed shoes!
