From the first century to World War II with a private local guide
Bordeaux's story begins in 300 B. C. as a part of the Roman Empire and as a strategic port city, it played an important role in every major French war. Did you know that the 100 Years War against England was in fact a fight over Bordeaux and the surrounding region? Or that Naplolean passed through Bordeaux on his way to fight Spain and built Bordeaux's first bridge? The enormous Nazi submarine base still stands and will surely take your breath away.
I will show you the monuments tied to these wars and tell you the legends and anecdotes documented by French historians that you will not find in guidebooks.
We will stroll along the river, walk through town and eventually take the tram to the Nazi submarine base. I will point out all of the significant sites relating to battles fought in and near Bordeaux. We will admire the cathedral where a marriage took place causing Bordeaux to be under English rule for 300 years and visit the French Resistance Museum. When we need a break, we can stop for a coffee and a pastry and if our tour falls during lunch time we can stop at a local cafe.

We met Stephanie first for a tour of Old Bordeaux with some war history. She lived in Bordeaux for several years and was very knowledgeable. There were four of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed her tour.
