Customized Walking Tour with Private Guide
Let's visit some of France's most beautiful squares and architectural wonders on permanent display in a modern city filled with medieval and even Gallo Roman structures.
During out time together I will take you along the Garonne river to show you a controversial bridge commissioned by Napoleon. I will tell you all about Bordeaux's Nazi occupation as well as a Viking invasion in the 10th century. I will explain to you why Bordeaux is nicknamed the 'Dark Capital' and also 'Sleeping Beauty'.
Now on to Europe's largest square with gorgeous fountains, statues and plenty of activity. I will show you the grand Bordeaux theater, two Renaissance towers and a breathtaking cathedral where a historical marriage took place in 1137. And of course no tour would be complete without coffee and a croissant at a sidewalk cafes!
I look forward to sharing this beautiful city with you as well as giving you a look into the modern French way of life.
After we meet I will lay out the day for you and make sure you are comfortable with the itinerary. We will cover quite a lot of ground; so based on the weather and your mood, we can walk, take the tram or a combination of the two. We will see several monuments and historical areas of Bordeaux and the advantage of a private tour is that if we pass by a shop that interests you, then we can always stop in and resume the tour after you have had a look. If the tour falls during the lunch hour (and I hope it does because that is part of the French experience) then I will take you to one of the local lunch spots.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I will pick you up at your Bordeaux hotel or cruise ship. If you are staying outside of Bordeaux, I can suggest a meeting place in the city.
**If you are on a cruise ship, please confirm that you are stopping in the port of Bordeaux and not Bassens, La Rochelle or La Verdon. I do not give tours from these ports.
End location: I will drop you off at your hotel or ship.
Duration: 4 hours
We will walk or take the city's new tramway based on weather and your preferences.

Tram tickets if we need them
In addition, I will help you plan the rest of your stay including making reservations for dinner and recommending other sites and activities based on your interests.
If you are in Bordeaux for the wine, I will take you a wine bar, a famous wine shop and help you reserve vineyard visits.

Stephanie was just fantastic. She spent the entire afternoon with us. We learned the history of the city and region as we visited all the highlights.. She never rushed us, treated us to coffee/pastry. Perhaps best of all was getting an "inside" look at the culture and mindset of the French people from the point of view of an American. We made a new friend today!
