The Trail of Life and Geologic Time
This tour is a journey through time and the history of life on planet Earth. The Black Hills regions contains some of the oldest and youngest rock layers to be found anywhere. Nested within these layers are a nearly complete history of life and how it has changed and developed. Ancient marine sediments contain a rich collection of shellfish, bony fish, turtles and marine reptiles. The terrestrial sediments contain lizards, amphibians, snakes, dinossurs, birds and mammals. Here is your chance to visit one of the most concentrated and complete fossil libraries on Earth!
This tour is easily customized to accommodate your wishes.
1)Short visit to the Museum of Geology at the SD School of Mines & Technology. This museum was started by Professors who needed specimens and artifacts to teach their students. Today it is a public geology and paleontology museum;
2)Then we drive to Dinosaur Hill and visit Dinosaur Park built during the Great Depression. These concrete models give excelleent examples of how much our understanding of these extinct beasts has changed;
3) Next we travel to Hill City, SD and visit the renowned Black Hills Institute of Geological Research. They are the discovers of Sue the T-rex and we will visit their private museum;
4) Finally we travel to Hot Springs, SD and visit the Mammoth Site. It is an Ice Age sink hole that contains more than 60 Mammoths and other Ice Age animals. It is an ongoing paleontological research facility where new insights are uncovered every year.
After a full day of stones & bones you'll be ready for the trip back home.

We just loved our tour with John! We had loads of questions and it was wonderful to have his full attention on this private tour. We also had specific interests and he tailored everything to our interests. So much fun! And all three of us learned so much. I would take a tour with John again in a second!
