Berlin is a city of stories, of contradictions, of seemingly ordinary looking buildings which witnessed heart stopping events, of vanished places which still whisper their stories, if you know how to listen. Yes, if you love discovering the secrets which cities hold, if you love stories, then Berlin is one of the most exciting places on earth.
I'm a historian and author, and have an MA and a post-graduate diploma in history, so helping you to discover these stories is something I'm passionate about. I acted as a guide for many years in Moscow and did interpretive work in the UK at castles and abbeys.
I've found that the word "history" sometimes scares people off; it brings to mind dry lectures filled with names and dates. I don't run my tours that way. Instead, we explore how Berlin's stories, how Berlin's geography and buildings reveal its essence. And that essence is never less than fascinating. I sometimes like to say that Berlin's story is like a Greek tragedy written by Shakespeare and edited by Tolstoy. It's a tale of twists and turns and surprises, of the unexpected catching you when you least expect it, of big ideas, of dramas and farces played out across one of Europe's most interesting cityscapes.
So come join me on an unforgettable trip into the past and let's discover what makes this dynamic city tick!
