Walk the island on which Berlin was founded and visit the Nofretete
Now the centre of Berlin, the island in the middle of the river Spree was the starting point of this huge city back in the days, the dwelling place of kings and the centre of cultural life. After the war the communist government made it their headquarters and changed the topography of the city dramatically which was then erased again by the post reunion government. We will explore the beginnings of Berlin, dive into the royal past of the city and the country and see how Berlin is in the process of change these days.
Where once the royal gardens spread out, the Museum island was established from the start of the 19th century on. Nowadays a UNESCO world heritage site it was the beginning of modern museum culture in German countries and an expression of the sophistication of not only the ruling class but the educated citizens as well.
As a highlight I will take you on a tour through the New Museum with its archeological collections and a fascinating architectural history which will last around 1. 5 hours.
