Combined WWII history and sightseeing tour of the Berchtesgaden area
Full day tour combining the history with the most popular attractions. Perfect for those wanting to discover the history as well as the beauty of the area.
The Berchtesgaden area holds so much historical value with regards to World War II. The first half of the tour covers many of the historically important sites on the Obersalzberg, including the more hidden locations that most tourists never hear about, designed to really provide an authentic account of the fascinating history of this area.
The second half of the tour would be a visit to either the stunning Königssee (King's Lake) with the option of taking the boat ride across the lake to the famous St. Bartholomew pilgrim church, or the Salt Mines (Salzbergwerk) taking a fun and educational tour of the still operational 500 year-old underground mines.
In addition, the mountain scenery is extremely beautiful and on a clear day you will be surrounded by spectacular panoramic views of the Bavarian Alps and the valley below.
The first half of the day would be an historical tour (4 hours) of the Obersalzberg as follows:
We would begin with a driving tour taking us up to the Obersalzberg mountainside with detailed historical commentary throughout.
Next, my accreditation from the German Institute for Contemporary History means I'm authorised to provide an in-depth guided tour of the Documentation Centre, followed by the opportunity to explore some of the original bunkers that made up the extensive bunker system below the National Socialist compound.
We would also include a visit on foot into the woods to the lesser known ruins of Hitler's Berghof home, including the opportunity to experience the panoramic views that were once on offer from his very house. We could also incorporate further exploration of the more hidden secret areas (if desired).
The second half of the day would be spent visiting either the stunning Königssee (King's Lake), or the 500 year old Salt Mines (Salzbergwerk) - the choice will be yours!

Worth every penny! Tom is magnificent. His local and historical knowledge is exceptional and he's a great guy to boot! He is the 'Heineken' of tour guides, literally reaching the places/sites which other guides don't and, in this way, not only do you get ultimate value, but also the most comprehensive experience. He even knows the tricks to beat the crowds and gets you into places where no-one else gets to go. An absolutely enthralling, educational and informative tour. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
