A private driving tour to Bath from the Oxford/Stratford area followed by a walking tour of the town

The elegant town of Bath, is famous for it's hot springs (the only hot springs in Britain!), the 18th century architecture and Jane Austen.

Once at the town we will walk through it's stylish streets of Cotswold stone terraces, imagining the wealthy and fashionable 18th century visitors, there for the 'season'.

We will pass the Roman Baths, built around 60 AD for public bathing, and there will be enough time to visit this fascinating and well preserved site that was excavated in the 19th century.

We will also see the 16th century Abbey church, the Pump Room and the Assembly Rooms where society, including Jane Austen, met and socialised. We will also see the magnificent Royal Terrace and the Circus, that are among the finest examples of Georgian Architecture in Britain.

Depending on your preference we can drive direct on major roads (70 miles / 115 km) or follow picturesque routes. Either via Cirencester, Bibury and Burford in the Cotswolds or the ancient landscape around Avebury stone circle.

Itinerary

Drive to Bath from agreed meeting place.
This will take around 1. 5 to 2. 5 hours depending on the start point and traffic.

Walk through the town visiting the main sites for 1. 5 to 2 hours. Take a break for lunch.

Optional visits to attractions and museums, e. g. the Roman Baths, Jane Austen Centre, No 1 The Crescent.

Drive back to your accommodation or other agreed drop off point.

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: We can meet at your accommodation or at a railway or bus station in Oxford, Banbury, Stratford-on-Avon or the North Cotswolds.

End location: I will leave you where we met unless we agree otherwise.

Duration: 9 hours

The duration may be affected by heavy traffic or by bad weather.

Transportation

I hire vehicles for driving between sites and normally use 'people carriers' (called a minivan in the USA I believe), like the Citroen Grand Picasso. The vehicles are fully insured, modern, comfortable, spacious and high so you can see more.

The tour includes a walking tour around Bath for about 2 miles taking around 2 hours. You will also have free time to look around the city if you wish.

What’s Included

Anne, the tour guide/driver who will give you lots of interesting information about the area, together with transportation to Bath from Oxford (it takes 1.5 to 2 hours) in a comfortable vehicle, with a walking tour through the elegant and historic city of Bath.

Anne holds professional indemnity and public liability insurance and the vehicle is also fully insured.

What’s Extra

Entrances to attractions, e.g. the Roman Baths and the Jane Austen Centre.

Restrictions

I offer driving tours from Oxford, Banbury, Stratford and North Cotswolds. I can pick up from a hotel or station. I do not offer day tours from London but can pick-up and drop-off on longer tours.
For walking tours, I pick up within 15 miles of the start.

A Recent Review of this tour

The tour to Bath was excellent! Anne was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions. Mother-in-Law less Ambulatory than expected and Anne gladly pushed wheelchair and provided insight into exhibits. Adapted tour to include short stop in Bampton which fit walking capabilities much better. Extremely satisfied!
