Countryside & Culture: Enjoy Barlach's famous art in Guestrow
Located in the midst of nature with the so-called "Heidberge", a beautiful forest with little hills, right next to the shores of the Güstrow Lake, the "Inselsee", you will find the historic studio of the German sculptor Ernst Barlach (1870 -1938), a worldwide known graphic artist and writer of the 20th century. The Ernst Barlach Foundation preserves the world's most extensive legacy of Ernst Barlach in its museums.
Barlach's sculptures and graphic works can also be seen e. g. in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York, the County Museum of Modern Art in Los Angeles and of the Busch-Reisiger Museum in Cambridge.
Just a short drive away from Warnemuende a cultural treasure awaits the visitor: besides the only Renaissance castle of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the unique castle of Güstrow, you will discover a master piece of art in the cathedral of Güstrow: the "Hovering Angel" (Güstrow Memorial; 1927) by Ernst Barlach.
