Beach Scenes, Hill Top Vistas & visit country village of Chalky Mount
Our hike begins at the Barclays Park on the beautifully scenic rugged East Coast of the island. First we walk along the crunchy brown sand, as our guide Victor interprets the beach detritus. I also point out the head of the sleeping Chalky Mount Giant, maybe you see him in the accompanying photo.
As we wend our way up Chalky Mount, the Village of Chalky Mount perched along the ridge of the Mount comes into view.
Barbados' best clay deposits are to be found in this Chalky Mount area and we will see how the local pottery studios apply this Barbadian Clay to various applications. It's always very windy up here on the Mount, with fresh air directly off the Atlantic Ocean. At this elevation we stand about 500ft (152m) above sea level on sand stone and clay; the oldest geological part of the island.
