Meath, Ireland. I now live close to the majestic River Shannon in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands. I am a qualified local historian and have worked in the heritage business for over 20 years as a guide and professional consultant. When I'm not working, I enjoy walking along the river with my family and dog. I also enjoy stargazing, making model aeroplanes, playing guitar and acting on the stage.
But I don't consider guiding work — I enjoy it too much! The best thing about guiding for me is that I get to meet new people like you, and share with you my passion for my local area and its rich history and heritage. Guiding brings together all my experiences and interests — history, heritage, culture and, of course, entertaining you, the audience!
My tours cover three main areas:
1) the Boyne Valley where I grew up alongside medieval castles and prehistoric monuments aligned with the sun;
2) my adopted home by the River Shannon where you'll find ancient monasteries, castles and Napoleonic fortifications, peaceful meadows and boglands, not to mention historic towns including Athlone, Birr and Banagher; and
3) the Wicklow Mountains — the garden of Ireland — where you'll be immersed in magnificent scenery just an hour from Dublin City center.
As your private guide, you'll get my full attention and local knowledge as we explore these great places together. I'll show things and share stories with you that many other guides might not know about. And I'm ready to customize my tours to suit your requirements and interests. As we say in Ireland, "a hundred thousand welcomes" await you!
