Visit Athens' vibrant neighborhoods with specialist food guide
This Athens Food & Wine tour will take you to the colorful, trendy neighborhoods of Monastiraki, Psiri and the famous shopping street of Ermou. At Psiri you try delicatessen such as Loukoumades (pastries eaten for breakfast that are skillfully made on the spot), drink Greek coffee, sample Greek cured meat, smell the herbs that are used to make ouzo and hear the shouting of salesmen at the vibrant central food market. You will oftentimes get the feeling you are in an oriental bazaar. We could also visit the Athens flea/antique market in Monastiraki. There is more time to do great food & wine tasting in a fabulous delicatessen store where you buy Greek foods and wines from all over the country. Time for lunch in a restaurant of your choice! Traditional Greek Food or Ancient(!) Greek Food. After lunch time to shop: Greek style jewelry, pottery, statues, olive wood objects, Greek music CD's, Greek musical instruments, clothes, shoes, fur, leather items.
We meet in the morning either at your Athens hotel OR Monasteraki Square in front of Hotel "A for Athens". You are at the heart of colorful, trendy neighborhood Monasteraki. Here we visit the Athens flea/antique market where you can buy (or just gaze at) antiques, Greek musical instruments, jewelry or hand-made Greek sandals. Time for Greek coffee with Loukoumades (pastries eaten for breakfast that are made on the spot- a true spectacle!) and bougatsa at the adjacent Psiri disctrict. Next: you sample Greek pastrami (pastourmas), smell herbs that are used for ouzo at the oldest specialty stores of Athens. Visit the central food market: fish, meat, fruit and vegetables galore! More tasting ahead in a delicatessen store where you buy Greek foods and wines from all over the country. Time for lunch in either a traditional Greek tavern or a place that serves Ancient Greek food and drinks! After lunch you can do your last shopping and we head back to Monastiraki Square or your hotel.

Everything about our time with Chantel and the food and wine tour was perfect. We learned so much, tasted so many different local foods, explored different neighborhoods and markets and felt like we spent the day with a very smart friend. I highly recommend this tour as a way to explore some different sides of the city.
