Visit the Athenian Riviera and the Temple of Poseidon!
One of the most beautiful and relaxing road trips outside the city of Athens, that will give you the opportunity to see another side of Athens. .
While the Athenians were building the Parthenon, Pericles had the idea to reconstruct the Archaic temple that was destroyed by the Persians during the 5th century B. C.
The location of the temple was one of the most important places strategically, because of the great view.
The temple is located on top of the hill at Cape Sounion, 68 kilometers away from Athens and it was dedicated to the God of the Sea and brother of Zeus, Poseidon!
Today only 15 out of the 34 doric style columns of the temple are still standing.
About 500 meters away, on a lower place, there used to be a temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena.
The combination of the white marble, the blue sea and the panoramic view is breathtaking.
In this tour you will have the opportunity to admire the Athenian coast line on the way to Cape Sounion visiting the temple of Poseidon. We will depart from Athens to a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Palaion Faliron, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza), all the way to Cape Sounion where you will visit the 5th century B. C. Temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking Panoramic views.
After your visit to the archaeological site, you will have the opportunity to have lunch at a local restaurant with magical view, next to the water.
