Explore Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve & Enjoy Catarina

Over the last 23, 000 years, the sleeping volcanic creator, Apoyo, has filled with subterranean waters and rain while its sides grew lush with vegetation and birdlife. And lucky for us, its inhabitants are willing to share the incredible view and peaceful waters.

Lying 45 minutes outside of Managua, this trip is a perfect day escape. We will take in the incredible view of the crater lagoon from the small town of Catarina perched above the reserve. From there we will then make our way down to spend the afternoon on the shore of the volcano, swimming and kayaking.

It is the perfect vacation adventure tale - "I was floating on a volcano!"

It is a private tour, accommodating up a group of four. We can work around your schedule to make the tour just right for you.

We will begin our volcanic adventure by picking you up at your hotel. As we head off toward Masaya, we can stop for snacks and supplies as requested. From there we will make the following two stops:

This adorable town overlooks the reserve and provides visitors with incredible views, local hand-crafted souvenirs, and restaurants with perfect seating to take in the calm blue waters. It is a definite photo-op destination.

Laguna de Apoyo Reserve
We will then enter the national reserve and head down to the shores of the volcano. There are various inviting private cabanas that offer shore-side luxuries such as kayaks, inner-tubes, hammocks, cold drinks, good coffee, and made to order food.

We'll plan to return to Managua before 5PM, to avoid rush-hour.
