No job could be more fulfilling for us. We are specialized in Normandy and particularly the landing beaches where we had the privilege and honour to guide veterans of the Second World War. I was also trained by the best historians and specialists of this period in our shared history.
My father was in the French Resistance and did a great job helping the allied in many ways: putting mines on the railways, destroying the electric wires. We were
parisians but have lived in Normandy for over 10 years and give tours to many American, English and Canadian travelers, showing them the highligts but also more hidden places, sharing with them emotion, passion and drama. When I guided for the first time with the P-47 pilots in 1984, I told them how embarassed I was, because they were fighting on the beaches before I was born; they answered: "listen Marianne, we were scared, freezing, sick, we didn't even know where we were going, so you can tell us anything, we don't even recognize the landscape!"
Before my father (a jewish phycisian as well as my mother)) was in the French Resistance he was in a concentration camp and was liberated just because he was nearing death, and it was a month before Christmas! So he decided to devote his life to a fair cause and almost gave his life again for the allied -particularly the Americans. When my sister and I were born, we were educated in the respect and appreciation of America. I guess our father transmitted to us this passion and I started to study first to get my license to be a guide and second to know as much as possible about the most astonishing landing ever undertaken in military history.
We will introduce you to local people, most of them being the children of these brave Normans who never gave up. To tell you the truth, We feel very proud when we are with our travelers, not only Americans, but Canadians, British all the other allied countries who contibuted to free our country. Trust us! You will have a great day and unforgettable memories.
A Recent Review of this guide
Marianne was friendly, polite, and very knowledgeable on the Omaha Beach tour. She keep our group of four to a tight time schedule so we were able to have plenty of time at each of our three stops. Marianne also recommended a great local pub for lunch. Our group was most impressed at the American cemetery when Marianne ask three different groups to be quieter and show respect to the men who gave their lives. I would highly recommend Marianne.
