Newborough dunes, Beaumaris & Castles

Explore the magic of Anglesey on this shore excursion. You will get to feel the culture, nature and atmosphere of this ancient land with a mixture of built and natural heritage. Culturally Beaumaris has a wealth of history and great charm. It has a mediaeval castle, build by Edward I in 1282, as a centre piece and views of Snowdonia from across the Menai straits. The medieval fort is considered by UNESCO as one of the finest forts of the period in Europe.

Newborough Warren sand dunes have miles of golden sand beaches, framed by the majestic mountains of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula. Newborough Warren Nature Reserve also offers miles of pine forest trails, teeming with wildlife including the endangered red squirrels and European largest Raven colony. The enchanted island of Llanddwyn, said to be the home of St Dwynwen, the Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers can be seen as a prominent peninsular from Newborough.

Itinerary

Anglesey is steeped in culture and history. We firstly visit the historic town of Beaumaris with the option of walking through the castle, central to the town. We then head to Din Lligwy, an ancient Roman settlement on the east coast. Following this we visit Paris mountain, the historic copper mines with their colourful rocks and great views over Anglesey. After a lunch in a cafe/restaurant of your desire we head to the west coast to Cable bay and again a site of an ancient chambered tomb and burial site at Barclodiad y Gawres. Finally we head to Holy Island and the sea cliffs at south stack with their sea bird colony, lighthouse and ancient hut circle remains.
