Whenever we say this, we usually join our hands together and bow a little bit in order to show respect to other people. Alright! Welcome to Siem Reap Angkor Wat, a gate way to the Unesco site. Thank you very much for choosing Angkor Wat as your destination.
Since I am a local tourist guide in Siem Reap, I would like to take this chance to introduce myself. My Cambodian name is Chhaiya and you can also call me Chaly. I was born in a countryside which is about one hour and a half drive from Siem Reap. I was born in the rural village just 10 years after the Khmer Rough fell. My was not still in peace yet the and I never expected what I can be today because when I was a child I was just a cowboy. Time passed by, a turning point came into my life when my family decided to move to Siem Reap in 2000. I felt that this was the time I got in the new world I could have a chance to get better education. Upon being raised in a nuclear family in which there 11 members. I am the only son who could continue pursuing my tertiary education until I finally got my bachelor degree in 2014. Since then I started my career as an English-speaking tourist guide.
I am now a licensed Tourist Guide with 4 years' experience giving tours. These days I work as a freelancer for many tour companies and hotels. Due to the fact that I love my country, I not only have 3 years' experience working as a local coordinator in villages within Siem Reap Province, but also run my own free school providing free access of English education in countryside.
4 years of working as a tourist guide with enthusiasm and communication skills has allowed me to act confidently as a tourist guide; I have noticed that I have learned to care about people. This is something I was not born with but it also became very much activated while meeting other travelers. I am usually considered to be a very genuine, wise, skillful and peaceful guide who can make people, young and old, happy with my skills. Sometimes I am told that I am a person who is eager to learn new things and profoundly kind. I think the greatest part is the fact that I perform my guiding work with joy because all the time after I take tours I hear the words that I have heard many times form travelers I have taken on tours all over the world are about my honesty, my knowledge, my effort and my ability to have the overview and to understand my travelers' wishes and fulfill them with kindness. Through this I hope to share the stories of our incredible environment with travelers to our nation.
Alright if you happen to stumble into the land of Siem Reap, I am here to help you and to make your trip an unforgettable experience. I look forward to seeing you and I can't wait to share with you all about my country, temple history, my culture, my people, and even politics. ENJOY YOUR TRIP WITH ME!
