3 hour tour to the 3600 years old city of Akrotiri and the prehistoric museum in Fira
An archaeology lover or not, Akrotiri is a must on your schedule and you won't regret visiting it.
Let me introduce you to the great history Santorini has to offer and discover together the secrets of ancient Akrotiri, the source of inspiration for Plato's story of the lost city of Atlantis!. Getting inside Akrotiri will definitely change your idea of visiting just another archaeological site. Later , a visit at the Prehistoric museum of Fira which houses wall paintings, artifacts and the only gold item found so far in Akrotiri , will help us to get a more complete picture of this unique civilization that flourished in Santorini 3600 years ago.
- AKROTIRI was a cosmopolitan port in the south of the Aegean Sea during the Bronze Age . It was destroyed in the late 17th century B. C when one of the strongest eruptions ever recorded in the history of our planet took place in Santorini. Walking through the ruins, you may see sophisticated public and private buildings once decorated by beautiful wall- paintings, which even had an indoor plumbing and sewage system, paved streets and storerooms full of clay jars perfectly preserved in the ash produced during that tremendous catastrophe.
The city lies under a new bio-climatic roof that allows visitors to wander around comfortably even in hot summer days.
-THE PREHISTORIC MUSEUM in Fira houses wall paintings and artifacts that once decorated the buildings in Akrotiri . Our visit will help us get a more complete picture of Santorini of the Bronze Age.
