I love Amsterdam and I love to eat.
I'm originally from Scotland and have eaten my way to Amsterdam via the Scottish islands, Edinburgh, Lisbon, the Algarve in Portugal and London.
I've lived in Amsterdam since 1997 and during my time here I founded and owned one of the best and most successful food speciality stores in the country for which I won national recognition and led to a cooking spot on Amsterdam TV and being listed in the national press as being in the top 5 speciality stores in the country.
Now I write about food (one cook book to my name and more to come) and travel, develop recipes, eat Amsterdam with clients on my private food tours and help food businesses in Amsterdam reach their potential with my consultancy services.
I know all the best restaurants, food stores (not the ones in the tourist guide books) and foodie secrets that Amsterdam has to offer and always share them with clients on tours and as well as the places we visit I like to help with food recommendations so you can explore further on your own. I keep my tours seasonal and relevant and include juicy seasonal treats and information where ever possible.
If you can't find what you are looking for in my tours, let me know as I LOVE to customize food tours for my clients.
Perhaps you would simply like a longer tour, or shorter, different start time? Maybe you would like to have some wine with your cheese? A glass or two of Dutch Beer with traditional Dutch snacks, maybe with a little Dutch gin (jenever) on the side? Or some Belgian beer? Would you like to taste some melt in the mouth top quality meats?. Would you like to try some French or Italian cheeses along with the Dutch cheese? Maybe you want more street food? In the summer you might feel like some hand made ice-cream. Would you like an extra stop for coffee with a fantastically indulgent cake? Would you like an extended seafood tasting?
You want it all?? Great! No problem, moderation has never been my strong point anyway.
To customize a tour, chose one of my existing tours as a starting point and tell me how you would like to tailor it to your wishes.
Note that customizing a tour may take me a bit of time to organise for you, so please give as much notice as you can. The tour that lends itself best to being customized is The Classic Amsterdam Food Tour #40033. Requests for customized tours should be done before you book.
All that's limiting me is your imagination and your appetite. Although, I may be a little limited by some of the businesses opening times and general availability. But be assured I will do my very best to make your tour absolutely delicious.

Enjoyed our walking tour with Karen to local cheese shops, chocolatiers and vegan restaurants. Karen is very knowledgeable on the local delicacies, including the yummy fish offerings of eel and herring that we had at the fish market. I would definitely hire Karen again as she is very personable, attentive and fun to be with!
First and foremost I love food and I love the city of Amsterdam. I enjoy sharing my passion with visitors.
After having spent many years working in Sales and Marketing in the Hospitality industry internationally, I set up "Vivers Delicatessen" in Amsterdam. Through a unique assortment of high quality, often hand made products, we were recognised by a national committee of experts as being one of the best delicatessens in the country. Nominated by respected national magazine "Lekker" as the cheese fondue expert, I also had my own cooking spot on AT5 (Amsterdam television).
I give private cooking lessons, of course work as a private culinary guide and in a consultancy capacity I help small food businesses reach their potential. I have published a healthy home cook book called "Love Food, Live Healthy"
Using all this experience and my passion for great tasting food, I have put together unique culinary tours for you to savour.
- I don't have my own transport and so only do walking tours in the centre of Amsterdam.
- I don't offer tours that include museum visits.
- I don't offer tours to the tulip fields
