Windmills, clogs and cheese
From the hustle and the bustle of Amsterdam it is only minutes to the magnificent countryside in the north of the city. This area is called Waterland and you will soon discover why: there is water everywhere! This landscape is as Dutch as you can get it: polders, canals, lakes and neat little villages on the borders of the former Zuiderzee.
Our first destination is Marken, the former island that is now connected to the mainland. Marken is one of the most picturesque villages in the Netherlands. Admire the wooden houses on piles and the traditional colourful costumes that some locals proudly wear in daily life.
Board the MarkenExpress and sail to the fishing village of Volendam. You will be impressed by its romantic small houses, draw bridges and canals.
We continue through Dutch scenery with its green wooden houses and eye-catching windmills. We will visit a working windmill, a wooden shoe factory and a cheese maker on our way.
Explore the Dutch Icons with your own private guide!
In the morning I will pick you up at your preferred pick up location (your accommodation, the cruise ship terminal or Schiphol airport). We will then make our way to the countryside where we will visit the traditional fishing villages. I will show you the highlights of the villages and will tell you about the traditions in these villages. There will also be time for souvenir shopping and a typical Dutch lunch (not included).
In the afternoon we will explore even more of the beautiful countryside and we will visit a working windmill and a cheese farm.
You will see the typical Dutch polder landscape and we will drive on scenic roads. Old Holland off the beaten track!
After our tour I will drop you off at your preferred drop off location (your accommodation or any other location including the cruise ship terminal and Schiphol airport).
Don't forget to bring a camera! There are many good photo opportunities.

We had a wonderful experience: Frank is very knowledgeable, courteous, kind and accommodating - a pleasure to be with. We learned a lot about the history and the way of life of the Dutch people in the countryside (windmills, clogs....). Monica & Sergio Vancouver, BC, Canada
