walking along the waterfalls and Amalfi paper mills
This tour is a combination of walk, history, food and fun!
We walk into one of the most amazing valley following the Canneto river. The scenery is amazing. We are in a chesnut forest and the clear water of the river jumps on the rocks creating lots of waterfalls and natural swimming pools.
On the way we find all the ruins of the old and abandoned paper mills where in the 13th century local people started to produce paper using cloths, they learned the technique from the arabs. The economy at that time was based on this production
The last spot in the valley is a natural reserve with the most spectacular waterfalls. It's a protected area where the "Woodwardia radicans" grows, a pre-historic fern that can be 2 meters long!
In Amalfi we can visit the PAPER MUSEUM, that was a paper factory in the 14th century. A guide will show us the old machineries and the process in making paper using cloths.
The right end of our tour will be a great luch in a family restaurant on a balcony overlooking Amalfi.
We have two options to do this walk:
1)starting from Amalfi and going up to Pontone village
2)starting from Pontone village and going down to Amalfi (easiest)
We can meet in Amalfi and depending on the option chosen we can start walking from there (option 1) or we can take a transportation to Pontone (option2)
In both cases we walk up to a natural reserve, where we can admire two spectacular waterfalls.
We can have lunch in two special restaurants, one along the walk and another in Pontone village. Both are family restaurants where we can have our lunch on a balcony overlooking Amalfi.
Another option for lunch is to stop along the river and eat a sandwich.
In Amalfi we can visit the Paper Museum

Rosa was excellent. She designed a tour that suited our requirements and took the time to explain our plans for the day. She was very engaging and knowledgeable. She prearranged a lovely local lunch for us along the way using her local connections to prepare a beautiful, organic meal at a small farm in the Mill's Valley. She was also lovely with our 12 year old daughter, looking out for her and keeping her engaged along the way. We spent about 6 hours with Rosa and really enjoyed her company and the tour
