Alcazaba, Al-Medina and Cathedral
The old town of Almeria, known as Al-Medina district reminds us that this city was founded by the Caliph of Cordoba in the 10th century. The Alcazaba is an arquelogical site of impressive size and worthwhile the steep steps. The fortified Cathdedral dates back from the early 16th century, after the destruction of the former Mosque Cathedral during an earthquake. But there are many more interesting sites to see during the visit. However, you really should be a good walker as there is a lot of walking involved, even if we can get very close by car to all monuments.
The tour is planned for up to 4 hours from and to the ship.
We may include a tapas stop at tone of the typical tapas bars of Almeria!
The tour is adaptable to your needs, and if the Alcazaba is too steep, we will make a loner panoramic tour in the vehicle.
Before you book, please contact me, in order to make sure that I can come to Almeria, as I don't live there.
We will start at the port cruise ship terminal with a panoramic drive along the modern part of Almeria. The historical centre has very narrow streets which are mainly pedestrian, but with a vehicle we can get quite close to all important monuments. A visit to the Alcazaba is recommendable, however it might not be suitable to everybody, as it has many steps and is quite steep. (please let me know if this is your case, in order to adapt the itinerary). From the Alcazaba, we will walk to the Cathedral and the historical centre and to Main Street, Paseo de Almeria, from where we can use the car for the way back to the Port.
