Historic Sites of Western Algarve

We'll be travelling back to a time when the Portuguese were involved in the biggest enterprise in the world: discovering the sea route to Índia. And all this started from Lagos in southern Portugal.

Lagos is a fantastic town in the western Algarve that in the 15th century was the operational base from which Portugal explored the African coast. It was here that prince Henry armed the caravels for the Discoveries. All over the town, street names allude to the Discovery. Among the historic buildings and monuments, the first slave market in Europe and the baroque St Anthony's church stand out.

Ponta da Piedade will leave you speechless. it's hard to imagine so much beauty in one place! It has been called the most beautiful beach in the world.

Our tour wouldn't be complete without a stop at St Vincent's Cape, the so called end of the world, and Sagres, the town nearby that still breathes history. We won't miss the Sagres Fortress either, or the Old School of Navigation! Let's go!

A Recent Review of this tour

Rosa is very knowledgeable about the country. She took us to some really nice picture spots. We enjoyed the conversation, her punctuality and professionalism. There is no better way to explore the Algarve. Definitely miles ahead of the bus tours which are terrible.
