private shore excursion

Your Private Alexandria shore excursion departs from the Port of Alexandria then drive along the Mediterranean coast to the Montaza Gardens, 115 acres of gardens that surround the Montaza Palace, built in 1932 by King Fouad and inherited by his son King Farouk, last of the Egyptian kings. Proceeding to see the Catacombs of Kom El Shuquafa, one of the wonders of Egypt. Discovered by a donkey in 1900, the catacombs represent the largest Roman cemetery in Egypt, and include the remains of more than 300 individual tombs. Constructed in the 2nd century A. D. , probably for one family, they were later expanded to three levels cut 90 feet deep into existing rock. Next stop on your excursion is a visit to Pompey's Pillar, an 88-foot red Aswan granite column . Perhaps Alexandria's best-known ancient monument, Pompey's Pillar was constructed in honor of Emperor Diocletain in 293 A. D. Continue to the site of Quitbay fortress , which sits on the site of the Ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria

Our Alexandria tour, includes:

1)The Catacombs of Kom-Alshukafa

The catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa (meaning "Mound of Shards") is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages.
The necropolis consists of a series of Alexandrian tombs, statues and archaeological objects of the Pharaonic funeral cult with Hellenistic and early Imperial Roman influences

2)Pompey's Pillar
Pompey's Pillar is a Roman triumphal column in Alexandria, Egypt, and the largest of its type constructed outside the imperial capitals of Rome

3)The Roman Theater

This is the most complete Roman ruin in Egypt. It was a small amphitheatre used for music and the reading of poetry and dates from the 2nd century AD.

A Recent Review of this tour

Great Tour, we had an unforgettable day in Alexandria and the great opportunity to see the city through the eyes of one of its sons. Completely unlike the typical "professional" tour where halve the time they try to sell overpriced tourist crap to you. Mr. Youssef has sound knowledge of the historic and present city. Even though the tour actually took the promised 10 hours (extraordinary in Egypt), it never got boring or drawn-out.
