private tour of the archaeological site of Akrotiri.
This is a private tour in the excavations of the archaeological site of Akrotiri, one of the most important prehistoric settlements of the Aegean. The volcanic debris that covered it during the eruption of the 17th century BC sealed the settlement and preserved it in a perfect condition for about 3600 years. The excavation that is still carried out revealed a brilliant civilization with technology advanced in all aspects and especially in construction: multi-storey houses, decorated with amazing frescoes and equipped with a very developped sewage network and all these. . . during the Bronze Age! Follow us for a journey to this incredible era and allow yourselves to "meet" the society that reached this high level of achievements approximately 3600 years ago!
We are going to drive from the meeting point to the southern part of the island for a guided tour of Akrotiri. After the visit of the archaeological site, we will drive you back to our meeting point.

Dimitra is a very dynamic and captivating guide with thorough preparation and knowledge. She describes facts and events so vividly that the tour becomes a movie. Thomas who helps her with driving is extremely attentive and considerate. They offered to take us to the beach, leave us there for a couple of hours and then drive us back to the hotel in Oia. It was very thoughtful and we really appreciate their friendliness and their effort to make sure we have a chance to see and try as much as possible!
