Discover Addis with a private guide

Addis Ababa- the "new flower" is set at the foot of the Entoto Mountains. It is centrally located with in Ethiopia as a capital city should be. It is to here that all roads lead.

The altitude varies from 3000 meters (9840 feet) at the top of Entoto to 2200 meters (6800 feet) at the foot of the city.

The temperature ranges from 14 degree centigrade to 18 degree centigrade. 80% of the yearly rainfall occurs between mid- June and September which is the heavy rainy season.

Addis Ababa was founded in 1880 by Menelik II who moved his capital city from Ankober (a town 175 km to the northeast) to the top of the Entoto Mountains. The church of St. Mary where Menelik was crowned Emperor in 1882 can still be visited on top of the mountain. His wife, the Empress Taitu however, found the natural hot springs at the foot of the mountain to be more to her liking and so after a while the capital was moved to the foot of the mountains just above the hot springs. The palace he built is still there.

Itinerary

We will drive to Mount Entoto (the highest pick of Addis Ababa) which is around 3000m above sea level and have a good view of the city away from the hustle and bustle of the city to the nice forest full of birds song and fresh air. On the way back, we will explore the traditional market where locals will buy traditional clothes for various ceremonies. This market is also ideal to buy various souvenirs.
We will drive to the Ethnographic museum found at the Addis Ababa University to learn more about Ethiopia and you will learn about Ethiopia's last Emperor Haile Selassie and the famous coup.
Then we will continue to visit the National Museum to visit the famous 3. 2 million years old homosapien Lucy.

A Recent Review of this tour

Feven is an incredible human being who is heavily involved in community work. We found her tour and chatting with her about life in Ethiopia really thought provoking. We got the chance to see some of the children Feven is helping out, and I hope to stay in touch to see how I and my school can help in future. It was a pleasure to meet Feven and I thoroughly recommend her as a guide.
