A journey through Venetian painting
The Accademia Galleries is one the world's largest painting collections and epitomizes the Venetian school of painting at its best.
Once the seat of a monastery and a brotherhood after Napoleonic closure and disposession of a vast number of religious buildings all the paintings and altarpieces once in those locations were all transferred to the new seat. When a school of art was also established in the buildings the place was called the Accademia or the Academy.
The present Accademia houses now only the art collections as the school of art is now housed in another building in the Dorsoduro district.
The preset seat of the art gallery is under major refurbishment to gain more space to exhibit more art features.
In this 2 hour long tour we'll view and examine 14th, 15th and 16th centuries masterpieces an bring alive the golden era of Venetian painting.
After the tour is over you can spend more time visiting other sections of the gallery.
The itinerary inside the Accademia Galleries will include mainly 14th, 15th and 16th centuries works.
