Take a ride a thousand year back in time
After the last Ice Age our ancestors settled where water courses met the sea. These were ideal locations for the sea faring Vikings giving them access to both drinking water and good fishing. The original name of the town AROS literally means "the town by the river mouth".
From the surrounding hills the Vikings could be on the lookout for both friends and enemies arriving by sea and have enough time to get ready to defend the town if necessary.
I will make the Viking Age come alive when we walk along Aarhus Aa (water course) which is still the nerve centre of the town. We will see traces of the old defensive ramparts and explore how many of the street names refer to life as it was more than a 1000 years ago.
we will walk on the banks of the river, visit the museum of vikings (open weekdays only)and stroll along the old streets with names given a 1000 years ago.
Please tell me if you want a coffee break or would like to visit a shop selling copies of viking jewelry.
